Things have gone markedly downhill since Citizens United. Not proof of causality, of course, but it surely is not helping.

I think the fragmentation of media is at least partly to blame (in conjunction with with blurred lines between information and entertainment). When I was a kid, we got 3 television stations (CBS, NBC, and ABC), and most people got the one and only local paper. Now conservatives get their news from one source, liberals get it from another, and the "news" from each has so much spin that many people never see anything resembling balanced reporting. (When I was a kid, my dad would complain about the liberal media, but the biases today in both directions make that comment seem quaint). Someone at work theorized that Trump is the result of 15 years of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. I'm not sure what to blame for Bernie Sanders.

My impression with Trump supporters is that they are almost as disgusted with the old-school Republican politicians as they are with Democrats. I don't think the Romney speech will have much effect.

One of the many things I hate about this election is, neither Trump nor Hillary have any consistency in any of their positions nor any clear ideology.

Trump says whatever the heck comes into his brain that second and Hillary says whatever the polls tell her to say that day, so voters don't know what they're going to get from either.

An election for either one of these two will be bitter and ugly, will likely be entirely negative, will leave half the country hating the other half, will not create a mandate for anything and we're going to have 4 more years of gridlock and bitter acrimony.

I didn't hear Romney's speech. This election has turned into an all-out attack of the candidates against each other, none with any real platform or agenda, feeding off the media, who loves it. So I have decided. I am voting for Pinestraw.

I've decided to ignore this presidential election for many reasons. It's the first one in my adulthood in which I may not vote for a presidential candidate.

I'm standing by my long-held assertion that more is accomplished at the local and state levels. I'm encouraging every young voter I know to pay attention to local politics. Many of our country's youth seem to feel so disenfranchised from national politics--and that's understandable. Their vote is more powerful locally, but they don't realize this yet.

I don't think we can ignore the role of the media in all

So true. They are just fawning over Trump because he is ratings gold for them. Therefore they won't ask any hard hitting questions, lest he get mad and take his ball and go home - or to another network.

Beagles - Hillary's ideology is the same as President Obama's. She may be even more of a progressive. A vote for Hillary is 4 to 8 more years of President Obama policies. Democrats should be rooting for Trump, as polls show all the Republican candidates except Trump beat Hillary.

On Facebook:

Trump - 6,105,160 likes

Hillary - 2,666,274 likes

If you're wondering who's supporting Trump, just read the comments on his FB page and look up the user profiles. Sigh...

Hilary is presenting herself as having an ideology like Obama or, heck, even like Sanders, TODAY because she thinks that is what will win.

If she thought that campaigning with a tough-on- crime bill and talking about super predators and coming out against gay marriage would win her the election, that would be her ideology.

The Clintons care about getting power, money and connections for the Clintons. That's the only thing that's been consistent over their entire political career.

Since republicans are going to keep the house no matter what, she'll cut deals w/ them that anger her base and that benefit her backers so Bill can keep making his 6 figure speeches (assuming he can take time away from fooling around w/ young white house interns) and her hedge fund running son in law can get huge sums of cash from big democrat donors despite underwhelming returns and Chelsea can get paid $600K for interviewing lizards on NBC. It's actually funny how much she and her family are an embodiment of everything progressives claim to hate, but no one notices b/c Trump.

I actually don't really worry too much about how she'll govern (I was WAY more worried about how Obama would) b/c I think Obama was a true believer in the leftist cause... Hillary- no way is she a true believer and I don't think she'll use her political capital to push the country any further left. I doubt we'll see anything done in the next 4 years if she's elected, and if my choices are Trump vs. Hillary I think on balance I would prefer Hillary and gridlock (EXCEPT for the Supreme Court... that's the only real damage I think she could do and that's my biggest fear if she wins!)

Bill is probably not be a true believer. Hillary has the same ties to Alinski, et al as Obama.

I disagree with your opinions about Hilary Clinton, and President Obama too, for that matter Beagles. And as for the Supreme Court nominees, I would rather have seen Bozo the Clown sitting on the bench than either justices Thomas or Alito. Now we have one of them down and another seemingly about to open his mouth and 1. make an idiot of himself and 2. cause irreparable harm to the judicial branch. If the system works as it is supposed to, Obama will appoint Alito's replacement and the next president the upcoming vacancies (future retirements or deaths).

As a "limousine liberal" i guess I will be dusting off the limo to take poor voters to the polls....although my limousine is a 2008 Prius which I bought out of apparent misguided concern for the environment.

At least Hillary, and esp Bill, are real policy wonks. They eat up things like reading legislation and studies and hearings. They love considering and weighing issues. While you may not trust them to make the right decision, they will at least think about it and will have heard both sides.

Trump, OTOH, doesn't seem to think about much of anything but "Trump!" He has reversed himself and denied saying things he's said even on the campaign trail, let alone what he's said years ago. He is a total loose cannon, a spoiled brat, who considers nothing immutable including his own net worth, which he says changes day to day based on his mood. I sure wouldn't want his rash finger on the button, let alone anything else.

The only candidate who stays above the fray, stays on point and is open and consistent on his policies and is willing to focus on the fundamental problems we face including the corrupting influence of money on governance is Bernie.

It is very much in the interest of the liberal MSM to keep hawking Trump and it is very much in the interest of the right-wing media to remain silent about Bernie. But it is up to us, the voters, to vote...that's the fundamental way we can make a difference.

There was another great gem from Stephen Colbert: "I'm not sure if I am horrified or entertained. It's like watching one of those nature documentaries where the python unhinges its jaw and slowly swallows the capybara. And then becomes President of the United States."

This will only make Trump more popular. there is a reason Trump speaks to his supporters on a 4th grade level.

Robo, I so wish Colbert would give up his talk show and bring the Report back!
